Playboy launches Social network - ‘Playboyu’ - Are you in?

At a time when social networks are competing with each other by providing something unique to its users, Playboy (yes playboy) has launched a social network targeted at college students. Now don’t let your imagination go wild, it clearly says “an exclusive college-only non-nude social network.”
The playboy made college website is known as Playboyu. The social network is built on Ning, a platform that allows people to make their own social network for free.
Whats the hook to get people coming?
One of the obvious answers is Playboy itself. The name is enough for people to atleast have a look at it and maybe then give it a try,
The other one would surely be the sign up style. Unlike most social networks which have a “By invitation only” feature (which works), playboy much like Facebook has launched the network for college students only. You need a .edu e-mail address to sign –up and get registered.
They also have a very attractive line which says “Sorry, but high schoolers, old dudes and your Mom can’t join.” A statement like this will surely get the youth to register on the network. As it clearly debars Younger kids and moms, I am sure that itself will be enough for them to try and get access to the network.
What can you do on the network ?
The network offers services for in-college life as well as Campus life.
Student Services include

• Post photos, videos
• Blogs and Forums
• Private/Public clubs
• Unique faculty and features
Campus Life includes
• Special school pages
• Parties and on-campus events
• Active forums, polls and quizzes
• College journalism and fiction
• National radio show with student callers

Conclusion –
The features do sound pretty interesting and will certainly create a stir in the coming days. A social network coming from Playboy will certainly catch attention but will certainly depend on how it catches on and how do they plan to keep users engaged without boredom setting in.
