India tops in Asia-Pacific for Mobile Banking usage
When is the last time you used the Mobile Banking facility which your bank offered?
Chances are pretty high if you are an Indian as a survey by mobile technology company Sybase found that nearly 49% of respondents had used mobile banking services in the last three months.
This is the highest figure among the five countries surveyed in Asia Pacific. The survey was conducted among 11,818 mobile phone subscribers in Australia, China, India, Singapore and Taiwan.
Another interesting fact is that - One of every three Indians with a bank account is ready to switch to another bank on being offered free mobile banking.
Kaustuv Ghosh, country manager Sybase 365 India said, "The survey reveals a growing culture of financial awareness as customers are becoming increasingly vigilant when it comes to their money."
A primary concern amidst users is Security. You wouldn’t find many users using Mobile Banking to transfer large amounts of funds. Balance inquiry is definitely the most used service.
Personal experience – ICICI offers SMS alerts when your account gets debited or credited with a certain sum of money. Few days back I used the ATM of a different bank for withdrawing money and before I could leave the ATM kiosk – I got a message from ICICI saying xxxx amount has been withdrawn and extra charge of xx has been levied for using a Non-ICICI ATM
No sane user would mind such a service.
"Indian bank’s need 360 degree view of mobile service deployment and its benefit to customer and operational expenditure alike," added Kaustuv Ghosh.
