.mobi not so famous after all

.mobi the domain name that indicates the website is mobile compatible i.e. it can be viewed from mobile phones had created quite a stir in 2006 but seems to be phasing out with time.

There are about 65million..COM domain names out of which Dublin-based Mobile Top Level Domain (mTLD) has seen only 6,25,000 registrations for the .mobi domain
We had also done a article earlier on .Mobi a hit amongst Indian youth, which stated that just in 48hrs there were 95,000 .mobi registrants. One would not expect this domain name to loose traction so soon,
What could be the reasons for .mobi not doing so well?
For one some of the industry people believe that there is no use of dot mobi domains when they can directly forward users accessing websites from their mobile phone onto their (companies) Wap site.
In an article “Big brands particularly registered for two main reasons — to protect their brand name from being taken by another and a part of future strategy, with the assumption that it might catch on later.”
I personally feel that .mobi names will pick up India, yes I do agree that when one can forward mobile users to the Wap website there is no need to buy .mobi domains, but companies must understand that consumers need to know (made aware of) and be told about them being mobile enabled. If nothing else .mobi atleast tells consumers that they are mobile compatible and one might just take an initiative to log on the website using .mobi. please let me know your thoughts on the same.

dot mobi domains are big success.
dot com took 10 years to reach 100,000 but more than 625000 dot mobi domains already registered until now.
dont care records from net4india, which is a very small registrant of dot mobi domains. Please check records from answerable.com / resellerclub.com which are also from India. Then you can feel the success of dot mobi.
kindly for your information, I am one of the biggest dot mobi registrants in the world. I registered about 500 dot mobi domains which include lot of premium domains. Some of my dot mobi domains are export.mobi, import.mobi, cuisine.mobi, bio.mobi, lab.mobi, villa.mobi, hindi.mobi, shiva.mobi, bengaluru.mobi, destination.mobi….etc. Also I have sold some domains for total of us dollars 30,000. Still I receive lot of offers for my dot mobi domains.
Note that sponsors of dot mobi domains include microsoft, google, visa….etc. Google or microsoft will not support anything for nothing. I am sure, they will launch dot mobi search engines soon…google.mobi, yahoo.mobi..and the dot mobi will be a huge success. Please check some of dot mobi websites..bofa.mobi (bank of america), bmw.mobi, kochi.mobi(mine)…etc.
