Crazy Social Media Marketing – Mentos Intern and some new Viral Campaigns


It’s difficult these days to grab the attention of the online folks…unless of course you use the right social media strategy. One needs something which is cool, wacky and actually engages the audience…

The Mentos Intern was launched sometime in June and is still going strong.

So what is the Mentos Intern?

Well it’s about a College student Trevor who is currently doing a stint at the Mentos US Headquarter in Erlanger, Kentucky, as an intern – but not just any intern: a Mentos intern.

You can see him live on webcam and get him to do weird stuff like asking him to pull pranks on your friends etc. You can call him up, chat online, schedule and rate his work and lots more.

And where does Social Media Marketing come in?
This campaign has gone viral all over the net and the Mentos name tags along everywhere…

Trevor is on MySpace.
He’s got a profile on Facebook.
He’s pretty popular on YouTube.
He’s got his own blog.
He’s even on Xbox…

To pretty much sum it up – The campaign is cool, funny and effective.
3 important traits of any successful viral campaign. One can actually relate to Trevor and you’d want your friends to check it out too….what else does a brand like Mentos need?

A partly similar web initiative by Mentos – MentosHelpline was a pretty big hit in India some time back.

Meanwhile WebChutney have come up with another viral and this time it’s for Wrigley’s Orbit. The whole Sholay thing has become rather stale but this one might just be able to squeeze out a smile or two..

Meanwhile Microsoft teases gamers with new viral marketing website – Site of Champions (Via).

What is it about? Well nothing much currently…
Once on the site use 82207 as the code to enter, but you won’t find much there.

Click on the leg lamp in the right hand corner of the screen and the lights will turn off and laser should appear highlighting the outlines of a Halo Warthog, Master Chief, and a Shadowrun character.

What could 82207 signify? Perhaps an official announcement from Microsoft on 22nd August, 2007.
