Orkut have improved their scrapping platform and getting right to the point – it’s pretty cool and simple!
What exactly is this feature?
Well you can now paste in photos, embed videos, add audio and flash widgets on Orkut Scrap Books.
These features are going to be phased in over the next few days (weeks). Currently the Video Scrapping seems to be working.
Patrick Barry and Anisha Malhorta, Software Engineers at Google have this to say…
"Sending scraps to friends has always been the most popular way to stay in touch on orkut. So, we’ve listened to your requests: and over the next week we’re rolling out a feature that will let you to express yourself by leaving rich content scraps for your friends.You can upload photos, enter HTML code or URLs, and the content will appear in your friend’s scrapbook. For those of you who want more than static photos, you can enter the HTML-embed code and add things like videos from YouTube or slideshows from slide.com."
Add images:
Copy and paste urls ending in .jpg, .gif, .png or .bmp and the image will appear in the scrap.
for example, http://example.com/example.jpgAdd videos from YouTube and Google Video:
Copy and paste the url and the video will appear in the scrap.
for example, http://youtube.com/watch?v=videoid
Add podcast/audio:
Copy and paste the url of an audio file and an audio player will appear in the scrap.
for example, http://example.com/example.mp3Add html-embeddable objects:
Create or upload your content at sites such as photobucket.com, imageshack.com, rockyou.com or slide.com. Copy and paste the html embed code to share it with your friends.
What does this do for Orkut?
It ensures Orkut doesn’t lose too many members too soon to Facebook and other upcoming players.
Scrapping has been the most popular feature on Orkut and it’s basically the simplicity of the whole thing which made it such a big hit in India.
A very smart move by Google in choosing to improvise their Scrapping feature.

You should be able to see the new 'scrap tips' options near the scrapping box. You can paste HTML – which is being limited to just your friends, to avoid massive spamming. Also the preview button is is place..
