Micro blogging : a bridge!

In India Online PR is still in its most nascent stage, the reasons for the same being varied, from low internet penetration to lack of knowledge to carry the operations online. Can social media be used to leverage offline coverage online, and build conversations around the same? YES! Micro Blogging can be the bridge to the same. Lets Delve into how.

Lets start with what Micro Blogging is?

What is Micro Blogging ?

Blogging in its very nature revolves around informing people on what is happening – Communicating and Conversing. Micro Blogging in the same sense helps you converse the only difference being it holds you to a certain limit of characters. Hence making the communication string concise and apt. bringing us to the point ‘less is more’. One of the reasons that Micro blogging is gaining extreme momentum and acceptance is it helps people be in touch with other people without much effort. Amongst the different Micro Blogging Platform- Twitter is one of the most popular platforms, and is now being exploited commercially by marketers and PR agencies.

A list on the available Micro Blogging networks :

Jaiku,
Twitter,
Tumblr,
Moodmill,
Pownce,
Facebook’s status updates
Bebo
Xanga.

Lets say your company got covered by Economic time’s, Its great that the company put’s it up on their website. How about using that same link and leveraging the coverage online and creating a conversation around the coverage.

How do you do this?

Micro Blogging platform’s let you send links, Pownce has gone a step further and now allows you to send files. If your company is a web2.0 company and got quoted, on whether web2.0 is a bubble burst waiting to happen.

The Do’s are:

One could either..

A) Send the link with the text that says “Do you think web2.0 is a bubble waiting to burst”

B) If your client’s quote says: web2.0 is a myth…. You could state “Mr X states that web2.0 is not a bust, while Mr Y says it’s a bubble waiting to burst” What do you think?

When one leaves the question open, instead of just sending a link, it lets the reader know that their views are accepted. It is very important to reply to the replies you get. It keeps the conversation flowing. It is necessary for one to build a community on the micro blogging website and post and reply regularly. By being active, it helps you understand people in your community. There might be a person in your community who is a die heart believer of web2.0 and his thoughts relate to that of what your clients quote resonate – In that case sending a direct post to him would be a great exercise.

The Dont’s are :

DON’T

  • Sell your coverage
  • Post the coverage link multiple times
  • Be rude to a commenter if he/she disagrees with your clients view- Take it with a pinch of salt.

The only drawback in India is that Micro blogging is a relevantly new process, and still hasn’t been exploited. Having said that it is picking up a lot of pace in India.

Interesting content! It has proved hard to me to explain what is good about micro-blogging. This post might just help.
