You know that a technology/trend is really on the upswing when security measures are taken to protect it from hacker abuse. And to me its no surprise that this time the talk of security is around web 2.0 applications and their abuse by hackers. Clear signs that web 2.0 applications and its use is soon to enter into the corporate domain in a big way.
To cite a consumer internet example of web 2.0 abuse not too long ago Orkut had faced such an abuse of its scraps where auto scraps were being sent to users. Now as more and more web 2.0 applications get closer to being a part of companies daily working environment then i guess security of data that is processed by these applications would become imperative.
Websense that builds software that protects companies from external and internal computer security threats has announced the launch of new technology that finds security attacks launched within Web 2.0 applications and delivers threat protection to customers within minutes. Now with Web 2.0 applications, such as social-networking sites, wikis and blogs facilitating collaboration and sharing between users and their increasing popularity among corporate users i think this launch by websense couldn’t have come at a better time.
Websense achieved this by deploying new systems across the Internet called "HoneyJax" that emulate user behavior within Web 2.0 applications which uncover threats before they spread.
I guess once corporates start taking their web 2.0 strategy seriously then web 2.0 security would follow as well.
