Guruji Spamming on Rediff?
Email It!
Last month we blogged about Guruji’s Search and Win contest and whether it was a nice strategy to achieve long term searchers.
Well how successful has the contest been?
We don’t really have figures on that yet but we’ll try to get some for you.
Let’s get to the point now. If you are a frequent Rediff user and use Rediff as your news source, you might notice this at the bottom of every recent article:

Jessy Poonawaala seems to have a lot of time and a lot of determination to win something in this contest or is it someone at Guruji’s end who’s ensuring some Spam Marketing?
Referral Contests do often go viral and is something most companies look to achieve. Refer and win, refer and earn etc is a pretty old strategy..
It’s a win-win situation for Guruji though –
This is ensuring they grab a few eyeballs and if they are questioned all they have to do is say – ‘It is User Generated Referral Marketing’.

i think part of the problem with any search engine is to be able to really 'Search'. Forget the marketing - i think they still need to work on their crawlers - they arent doing a good job.
Guruji Tactic is:
After all the whole contest can be affordable [as it hardly cost 10 lack (out of $7M investment, a ~35 crore) including all prizes].
There Tactic is to Inject Guruji in your Brain Pattern, Making default search Engine in your Brain not in Browser. If you play daily you will somewhat addicted to their indian search results so when you didnt find the results on Google you will surely switch to Guruji, so next time when you have query specific to indian you will surely goto Guruji as default search engine. Guruji intention is to win with local search engines but not with Google.co.in. This is why they kept contest as indian's largely believe in prizes as everybody knows this.
Contest is not so difficult, you just copy paste the questions that they have asked to find and Guruji will say "Supperb" 3 more to go blah, blah.. There is lot of tactics they are playing with guruji and one more thing they have included their Search Bar in netvibes.com go and see there.
Rediff comment boxes are so inundated with spams, and I do not think that after announcing such a big contest, Guruji would go for such a cheap way to get it viral. They can always afford to buy the ad space on Rediff..
That being said, spamming is growing to be a top marketing strategy for the startups of late..Tagged(funded $20 million), mginger (4lakh subscriber base) all have grown big via spam only…

Hi Reader,
I work with Guruji.com, and I would like to use this opportunity to clarify that none of the Guruji employees are involved in any kind of spamming whatsoever on any of the media platforms.
The referral aspect of the contest was introduced to incentivise participants to let their friends know about the contest.
Unfortunately, some of the participants have resorted to spamming techniques to better their chances, which we do not have much control on.
As a policy we DO NOT encourage spamming, and urge the contest participants to refrain from using such techniques.
Thank you.
Thanks for the clarification Sagar.

@Saurabh Goyal - Its people like you who give internet a bad name. You actions neither help the company ur spamming about nor the users nor the site u spam on.
Also i think internet startups would be much better off using their funding for longterm value creation than non sensical short term campaigns which only hurt their brand. Ibibo did teh same thing with blogging and frankly all they have managed is to build a site full of spam and plaigiarised content.
Also MR.Saurabh blogs like watblog are not interested in giving you any traffic so expect your comment to be deleted next time (evil)
Hi all,
