This post is long due. I have been using "Next Action" a cool application to maintain your todo list for quite some time now. Its cool because of so many reasons. Here is the small screenshot of the tool-bar of the application.

  • It has dashboard to show you whats pending.
  • It clearly differentiates in actions and projects. Action means a single activity whereas project can last for 2-3 weeks or a month.
  • Its SPA :single page application
  • The framework in which it is written is completely in javascript/html/css and is a complete re-write of Rails framework for ruby. Developers look out this page
  • You have option to use it as standalone html as well as having sqlite database. The only problem for me was to keep the data at the office and home to remain same. There is a solution to this problem also.

This now has support for google gears too. I haven’t tried this one though. I need not write everything here. The interface is really intuitive and you will like it for sure.So start using this right away and get your things done.

Using a single html to-do list for your daily office work will suffice. There are only two caveats for this. First, you need to use Mozilla based browser as it’s been recommended and second, do save/overwrite your html once you add actions to the disk. That doesn’t happen automatically. It is been boon for me to keep tab on all the activities I am doing / I will be doing for a week. I have personally advised lot of colleagues/friends to use the same. Hope you like it too.

For developers who are interested to understand this cool framework refer this url. It uses the helma JavaScript web application framework; and it is a server completely implemented in JavaScript. There is lot to learn from Junction web-MVC framework and server.

Hope we find similar lightweight but meaningful applications for other activities too. :)
