Alexa releases Firefox compatible toolbar - Sparky
Email It!
Alexa’s non-compatibility with Firefox has been quite well known and finally on the 10th Anniversary of the famous (infamous?) Alexa Toolbar – they’ve released something called as Sparky! Their first FireFox compatible toolbar.
What is Alexa?
Alexa Internet, Inc. is subsidiary company of Amazon.com that is best known for operating a website that provides information on the web traffic to other websites. Alexa collects information from users who have installed an "Alexa Toolbar," allowing them to provide statistics on web site traffic, as well as lists of related links.
We’ve often been criticized on using Alexa to compare traffic of various websites. While Alexa might not be the best tool for judging traffic – it’s definitely one of the only and most convenient methods of COMPARING traffic in India.
comScore is not free and Compete and QuantCast basically map US visitors. We hope we’ll soon have something like Alexa primarily for India.
[If you are a hardcore techie and want to work on such a project, feel free to get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to assist.]
This is what the Alexa Blog has to say about some of the features of Sparky:
- Sparkline - A very small condensed traffic history graph. Gives you a quick view to show whether the site is moving up or down.
- Rank - Shows the traffic rank of the site.
- Reach Indicator - Provides a qualitative view of whether a site’s rank is good or bad.
- Related Links - Provides up to 10 Related links in the browser’s File | Edit | View menu.
- Shortcuts - Clicking on Sparky brings up a menu of other handy shortcuts, including Alexa Detail pages, Cached Pages, Search Pages and more.
In other related news – Firefox is surging to greater heights. Firefox use is on the up in Europe with a reported market share of 27.8 percent during the first week of July.

Great post!
Toolbars can do amazing things. Last week, we launched <a "http://www.ToolbarStation.com">ToolbarStation (http://www.ToolbarStation.com). It's the world's first directory of useful toolbars, with several hundred listings.
The toolbars that exist, and what they can do, are absolutely extraordionary. If the functionality of the new Alexa toolbar interests you, then it's definitely worth browsing the site.
Thanks again for pointing out this new, cool resource.
