An eye on copyrights!

The Indian Music Industry is paying heave to copyright content online, this time around it is not only limited to audio but churns around video too. According to this article, Kaushal Modi the head of SET India’s licensing and telephony division, has already sent a few legal notices to Google’s YouTube, against the hosting of some of Sony Entertainment’s popular programmes like Indian Idol and Comedy Circus.

Sony is monitoring online content to look for copyright violation. “We keep legal notice templates ready in the office—whenever we detect any infringement our lawyers are sending notices,” says Modi. These infringements do cost the music and entertainment industry, but could it be looked at as another form of content distribution.

There are many Indian clones of YouTube in India. The process of pinning each infringement seems to be a mammoth job, also considering, the manner in which a video/audio is duplicated over the virtual sphere is phenomenal. Hence the possibility of using these channels for content distribution is less time consuming. Atul Churamani, vice-president of Saregama Ltd, the country’s largest music company believes “The community sites provide alternative platforms of content distribution. But there should be strict enforcement of copyright laws before we can start earning revenues.”

This brings about the question is India ready to tackle the online video infringement matter. “We have some hard work to do. First, we have to wet our toes in this new environment before we start swimming,” says Churamani. Hence leaving us to answer one question, are Indian Companies ready to enter water, so as to say “wet their feet”

Sites like youtube makes such shows more popular, If i was the Producer of this show.. i would have made a lot better website then there shit website!! which does not buffer any clips, and uses window media files… and gives little interaction with the contestants..

this is Web 2.0 Era, you need to give stuff for free and make money by Advertising.. i am sure of they had made a better websites and have provided better resources.. they could have made millions from advertising..

They need young enthuasistic advisors, and learn from CNBC campaing on Youtube.. which made them so popular..

Its hard to identify those pirate video content. People just capture video in any film theater [where camera is not prohibited] and easily upload them youtube.

There should be some tool that ask certain parameter for users before uploading which will caught the user automatically.

I think its very hard to wipe out.
