Here is a next generation online shopping engine focussed on Lifestyle segment. Thefind the website has been on platform for sometime now, the latest news is that they have got a funding of 15 million $’s from Bain Capital Ventures. Based in Mountain View,California, the venture also has backing of Red Point Ventures & Light speed venture partners.
Founded by Siva Kumar, last october, the website has been picking up really well, with 170 million products and 500,000 stores currently indexed. The current investment will be used to extend the base on vertical search segment.

"Despite competition from Become.com, Shopzilla, Shopping.com, Smarter.com,Yahoo!Shopping,Google’sFroogle,NexTag and PriceGrabber  along with some missteps early on in its life, TheFind.com says its on its way to profitability." says Brian Smith.

The density of search index items might not be as huge as Google or Yahoo, but the vertical segment chosen by thefind.com will always find a huge audience and more room for indexing."Online shopping continues to grow rapidly, but until today no one had created a comprehensive product search engine with an unbiased, consumer- oriented product ranking for results," said Siva Kumar, CEO and co-founder of TheFind, Inc. "Most shoppers don’t know that product comparison sites are mainly a list of advertisements — meaning consumers are only seeing a very small portion of all the products available for sale online. We saw the need for a shopping search engine that works on behalf of the consumer to deliver the most popular and relevant product results from the entire universe of online retailers. Moreover, our unique design showcases what consumers want to see first — the products themselves — not a set of text links or small thumbnail images. We are excited to introduce this powerful technology and consumer-friendly interface that make online shopping fun, efficient and easy."

Thefind also added paypal into its portfolio. It launched paypal.thefind.com, a new shopping search engine built specifically to enable consumers to browse products exclusively from merchants who accept PayPal payments.Find a exclusive article by John Battelle.

With so many vertical search engines piling up, would Yahoo Shopping and Froogle face the heat sometime from now? Or are there gonna be more aquisition spree from Yahoo or Google.

  1. I was amazed by testing the product(when this story previously covered by sramana). It has best searching capability and the UI is very professional and clean. I like the product very much.

Froogle is already in dead pool. People need verticals in order to get smart results and TheFind is doing good job.

Good Coverage Srivats. But you can't compare index density of G&Y with TheFind as it is Vertical and that G&Y is Horizontal. You can do so with Froogle and Y!Shopping

  2. Thanks for the comments Mahesh. When I mentioned G&Y I meant G&Y Verticals. I will take care hereafter.
