DimDim.com shines brightly. Gets $ 5 Million in funding from Nexus

Nexus India Capital have invested $ 5 Million in open source start-up DimDim.

Commenting on DimDim, Suvir Sujan, Managing Director, Nexus India, said that the company had a strong potential to generate a lot of revenue.

So what exactly is DimDim?

Well DimDim aims at providing Web Conferencing solutions. They want to make web conferencing freely accessible.

The first time I read about them was way back in September last year on TechCrunch

They had just released the alpha version of their browse based web conferencing software back then. Users had to download the open free code and install it on their own servers. Presenters were limited to IE on windows, while attendees could be in the conference via Firefox even without any software download.

Other product offerings of DimDim include lot of sharing applications.

I particularly like this line on their blog, where they were talking about user led product development:

We feel, in software, user experience and user talk fulfillment is more important than feature set expansion. A software product which fulfills the needs and expectations of the user is better than a product which is more feature rich but difficult to use. This has been the core of Dimdim’s product management philosophy and it is this principle which guides us.

You can follow the DimDim blog here.

  1. I like the DimDim and i was amazed when it was launched as a Free service as WebEx is charging for the service which is also a serio. DimDim is surely a killer service that offers limited free and has limited most frequently used feature and i liked their "management philosophy" too.

Microsoft [Live Meeting] has also entered in this market too so there is a stiff competition in this area hope DimDim has a smooth move because of Freemium model and with FOSS.
