This can be used for video files also.
Copy the embedded object information from under the video file to a txt editor like notepad. find out the video URL. It will be something like videoURL=http://ishare.rediff.com/player_config.php?content_id=xxxx
Paste this into your browser to display the file location in the XML file. It will be something like http://datastore.rediff.com/briefcase/xxxxxxxxxxxx/adcdefgh.avi.flv
Copy this to your downloader and download. If the extension is changed to .avi most of the files can be run without flv player.
All these steps are needed as most of the embedded flv downloaders do not work on ishare.

@ Rohan: Didn't know about the existence of Yaars! i thought it was a typo for yaari. Are you one of the founders there?

iShare just gives rediff a lot of content to display ads on. Imagine each music file, video file page - will generate page-views, which Rediff can sell to advertisers.

Rediff seriously needed something like this to increase ad inventory - as the popularity of their email has been hit quite a bit with gmail and even local players zapak taking a considerable chunk of the new users.

Couldn't agree more regarding the rediff point with you mahesh. Though as far as tezza being the only ajax site is concerned .. that may not be completely true! :)

iShare definitely has the advantage of a large existing Rediff userbase they can tap into.

However, some of the smaller Indian social networks such as Yaars (www.yaars.com) seem to have a nicer design while still having pretty cool video, photo, and music features. I also agree that having iShare as a subdomain may inhibit the "iShare" branding which would be much more effective in achieving as a standalone web property although the upside of the subdomain is being able to leverage the Rediff userbase which would be very nearby.

However, a company as large as Rediff also has the option of buying websites like Yaars if they want to build out a standalone social network to add to their media holdings. U.S. media companies like News Corp and Fox Interactive have taken a similar approach instead of trying to build everything onto one web platform.

This might work for certain extent but not much like Youtube Flickr etc. While watching Images there is no leverage of AJAX and Photo quality is not so good.

If it was main domain like www.ishare.com it might clicked more as "i" has an impact in peoples mind as it is from Apple.

Rediff has lot of content but they are not up to the technology to graduate that content. They still develop Web 1.0 site. Colors of site is ok but not impressive and design is not so good.

The only AJAX technology site in india is Tezza.com which is impressive.
