SecondShaadi….. A New Matrimonial Niche
India has the lowest Divorce Rates in the world. This Report says only1.1%, but it’s believed that these numbers were even lower a few years back. Recently Vivek Pahwa, who currently heads Desimartini, launched SecondShaadi.com which is a matrimony website targeted at the divorce, widowed and separated population.
I had a few quick words with Vivek Pahwa regarding Secondshaadi.com and here are his views.
Q) What are your thoughts on the Niche Market that Secondshaadi is targeting?
There is definitely a market for this niche. To put a number to it, its probably 5% of the existing matrimony market. SecondShaadi.com aims to make it simpler for such people to find the right partner over the internet by creating an exclusive database of people looking to get married for the second time.
Q) Is the Indian Market ready for SecondShaadi.com?
Keeping the Indian society in purview it would be easier for our target audience to use the internet rather than classifieds in newspaper. There is definitely a need and secondshaadi is a solution to that need.
Q) What are the future plans and targets for SecondShaadi?
SecondShaadi.com hopes to sign on 100,000 registered members over the next 3-4 months. To achieve our targets we will be advertising via the internet and the radio.
It’s a not so great looking website that is addressing a great niche. Rajiv Dingra Chief WATBlogger believes that SecondShaadi is a great concept and will do better than Desimartini. Though its may be early for the Indian market, but as Vivek said, it would be a much easier and more targeted way for people who are willing to give a second chance to marriage.
The website that got launched on the 15th of this month has already garnered 600 registrations.
More on the Matrimonial front Bharatmatrimony Launched MatrimonyDiary.com. It is another initiative by BharatMatrimony introduced as a means to share in a couple’s wedding experience. It is a good concept, which could be executed better. Matrimony Diary helps couple maintain a website on their marriage, free of cost for the 1st year. The website looks extremely static and lacks interactivity. Matrimony Diary also gives the couples an option to makes its website public or private.

Well, i was thinking of the differentiating factor between shaadi and second shaadi. Given that divorce rates are very low and the market is fragmented, it would be very difficult for Mr. pahwa to turn this site into a successful venture.
Also, what prevents shaadi from copying this feature? A single checkbox (search for divorces) will render the need of second shaadi obselete.
Also, indians need to focus a lot on website design. All the websites till date suck. They have horrible interfaces and clumsy appearences. For example, i searched on second shaadi for a match in singapore, and all i got was blank page in result. The site did not even say no matches found. Given that the site is just two days old, i hope, Mr. pahwa is already thinking of making this site better. But he has so many others also to manage . :))
Have you noticed how the design of secondshaadi.com mimicks the one at shaadi.com? Maybe they should open up a secondhanddesign.com
I am sorry for the snipe, but I get pissed when I see someone doing an IP violation.
Pahwa is well-known for plagiarism!
go check desimartini.com - design, interface, etc. is completely lifted from other popular sites #!
Should try a hand @ creativity…
if incompetent, jus' quit! (lol)
Boys Lets refrain from slashing mud at people.
Having said that i do agree the website, needs to work on its design, it does lack creativity.
:)) Happy reading :))
