Operators recognising massive Mobile Advertising potential
Email It!

Tata Indicom have launched a mobile advertising programme in partnership with Mast Mobile Media. This would enable distribution of interactive ads in Tata Zone brew applications. These ads are currently being served in the downloadable music, ringtone, wallpaper etc app.
They would support ‘click-to’ actions which include interactive voting, free downloads, coupons, SMS and call…
This launch comes just days after Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest mobile phone operator, started their test marketing of SMS 2.0 - in and around Delhi in a tie-up with the UK-based Affle and MobileOne Ltd, one of the main operators in Singapore.
What is SMS 2.0 all about?
SMS 2.0 creates an interactive channel for the non-intrusive delivery of relevant content and advertising on the SMS window. The consumer chooses his interest area, and the latest information is delivered unobtrusively, while he composes or reads an SMS message.

AgencyFaqs mentions “Airtel subscribers can download and install SMS 2.0 onto their mobile handsets for free."
Free? Don’t tell me that Airtel plan to charge users to view Ads?
In fact, why would I want to download and install something on my mobile just so that Operators can show me ads?
Or is their bigger picture - sharing revenue with the users and offering them free goodies?
Something like - ‘Respond to 20 Ads / Month and get Rs 100 worth free talk time!’
But if Airtel is going to primarily try and push content via this platform and later look at monetizing this content – then it does make sense.
Eg: I get complete information about the match that I missed – for free and you can also show me some ads while doing so
We did mention the above in our weekly Sunday Recap.
