Just days after Tata Indicom launched their Internet Radio Service for Mobile Phones, Reliance Communications have announced the launch of a partly similar service.

The service would be available to both post-paid and pre-paid subscribers of Reliance Mobile, Reliance Hello and post-paid Reliance landline subscribers. All Reliance mobile customers, regardless of the type of mobile phone, can now avail mobile radio service across the country, reports Financial Express.

Though their website has just this to say:

"Mobile Radio
:
This application is to provide streaming Radio on Reliance Mobile World. The service will entitle subscribers to listen to quality Hindi songs without any hindrance of RJs, advertisements etc. Application available: Nokia 6255, Nokia 6265 & Nokia 6235, Nokia 3155 & Nokia 6155."

This service would be available in eight Indian languages including Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam, amongst others.

Mahesh Prasad (President, Applications, Solutions and Content Group) commented: "With launch of the mobile radio service, the fundamental barrier between a mobile and a radio has been bridged. Effectively, every phone becomes an ‘FM-like’ radio phone for those who have missed out on buying and FM-enabled phone."

What’s interesting?
Customers subscribing to this service will have the option of accessing complete songs of one’s choice and will also have the flexibility of skip or replay.

What’s ridiculous?

The pricing!
Customers have the option to subscribe to Mobile radio at Rs 30 per month and then listen to radio at Re 1 per minute or listen to mobile radio at Rs 3 per minute (without subscription).
That would be like around Rs 15 for a song, if I choose not to subscribe!

Why would some one opt for such a service?
