California based, Internet Company Yahoo Inc. is to launch an advanced version of its mobile app for cell phone users in the in 13 other countries, it has already been in Beta in the United States.

Yahoo’s new application will be able to do the following -

• operate faster, with lower page loading times.
• open Adobe Software Inc.’s PDF files and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents.
• Ability to access Yahoo Mail folders.
• shows satellite image maps, as well as  hybrid maps.
• display of real-time traffic conditions on the maps
• Provide GPS (Global Positioning System) services on some devices.
• Yahoo Messenger, Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Sports and Yahoo Weather. (mobile version)

The app will soon come pre installed with devices like Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, LG and HTC that will begin rolling out later this year. The app will be compatible with about 200 phone models by the end of July and 400 models by year end globally.
What that does is eliminate two steps i.e. downloading the application and remembering to use it. When the app is pre installed it becomes easy for users to surf.

Yahoo is in talks with Asian operators from six countries that would be using yahoo’s web based search as their default engine on their mobile phones. Yahoo has signed a deal with Idea Cellular Ltd. in India.
The deal gives Yahoo access to a combined universe of almost 100 million mobile subscribers in those (Asian) markets.

Msn also recently (covered by us) came up with a mobile version of their website that provides content on mobile phones like msn messenger, weather, stocks maps etc. there is no app required to download unlike Yahoo. You simply have to point your mobile to the msn mobile website.

Yahoo says that Go for Mobile 2.0 is "an innovative new application that redefines the mobile internet experience". Go for Mobile 2.0 includes much improved mobile search and allows user to personalize internet content.
