@ Rohit – Well yes I did speak to Chaitanya, about the same and he reasoned saying that the ad’s would be received only if the were relevant to the reader. Yes I Do agree their initial gimmick of getting users to register may not have been the best, yet in my opinion 4.7 lakh is not a small number. Thank you for your comment and yes we will strive to do better.

@Sanjeev: The purpose of any Ad is to inform, initially the pull may be money for mGinger users, but if mGinger can position it self as an informer, they will have a great service.

Its the worst concept ever. If you select only categories you want to receive ads for – you will end up making Rs 5 per month. So users always select all possible categories. At least ad agencies like ours will never use this medium.

@Priya – If you did talk to those people who have lost faith in the service, they why you dont raise these questions to Chaitanya? Lets see what he has to say about this.I wish there were means so that people like him could be banned from conducting business online, just as what happens to corrupt brokers in stock exchange!
Moreover, getting 4.7 lac regd users by a unethical gimmick is not a feat.Its cheating.Divide their total earnings i.e. 65000 by 470000, what do you get? 14 paisa! Simple maths hun.Sad to see this statement from you.Do not let watblog's credibility being questioned by statements like this.You can do better.

Dissapointing to see that the mginger blog (http://www.mginger.com/blog) is moderating comments – they have only positive comments.

@ Pranay: Well this is something new in India, but is an extremely old concept outside. Infact is used to run a website which listed sites which paid you to read email, surf etc….They did crash…because of the immense abuse.

Advertising will definitely lose value….but lets see.

@Rohit- While doing this article I did speak to a few people who had continuously bombarded my inbox with join mGinger, they had hoped to get a lot of money (as mentioned in the myth segment of mGinger) and to quote “have lost hope in the service.”

@- Pranay – If I tell you the amount, ill have to kill you, lol just kidding. If we had to make money we would have done so by placing ads on watblog. But one has to give them credit for having the numbers on their side. Getting 4.7 lakh subscribers for any service is great feat Yes I do agree with you the true essence of placing an advertisement could be lost.

How much did mGinger pay you to feature them? They are not even worth mentioning. Infact this is such an old doomed concept – advertisers will obviously not pay up when they know that their messages are simply going to be deleted.

It was programs like these that lead to the dot come crash.

Infact http://admad.mobi/ have come up and their main page shows users can upto 5000 per month – and they are spamming on Orkut just saying 'Earn more than mGinger'

Again, someone who uses the medium in an unethical manner. When the campaign was launched, mginger had the calculations on their home page, showing a user can earn upto Rs 2000.That was a huge huge draw for everyone ( people who were bad at doing maths and could not see the difficulty in building the tree of 10-10-10) and thus everyone was e-mailing his friends,chachas,mamas,clients,customers.
And now, as they say ,they have 4.7 Lakh users but total earnings of Rs 65K+ and highest single user earning as Rs 91. And everyone is getting the maths right now and they have come up with a disclaimer here ( http://mginger.com/blog/index.php/2007/05/27/myths/ ) . Why this was not in place when the campaign was launcher? And why the money calculator has been removed?
Again a case of someone misusing the medium and not being clear right from day one about their policies.
Lets see where does it takes mginger from here.
