How Facebook is changing Social Networking
Email It!
Facebook made some significant changes recently. They opened their software environment where developers can create their own services. Facebook launched "The Platform", a system enabling 3rd party companies to integrate their services inside of Facebook user pages. About 70 companies have applications set up already and 300 more are awaited
Facebook is trying to make the site a one stop place where you can involve your friends (rather users) in everything you do online.
For example if u are a eBay seller…but you’ve got your friends and your community in Facebook - you’ll be able to add an eBay Facebook app which would directly enable you to sell to Facebook users.
The new initiative will enable Facebook users to get more efficient at communicating amongst themselves about products and services they use.
I just tried a popular application on Facebook from a music social networking company called iLike. This was added by over 2,00,000 users in just a day.
The beauty of the application is not only users can have information about popular artists tour plans but also they can immediately buy tickets, see who all are going to the same concert and share travel plans with them.

Some other cool applications (Via: Mashable) :
Amazon:
Facebook and Amazon have partnered to produce an application called ‘Book Reviews’ that allows Facebook readers to write and display reviews on their profiles. As an extension of the review, users can click through to the Amazon store and purchase the reviewed books
Forbes:
Forbes integrated there website into Facebook, you can track company stocks and access related financial information, along with the latest headline news from Forbes. You can track up to ten companies by their ticker symbols, view the three most recent news headlines, and get immediate access to relevant financial data. This can be displayed on your profile page and shared with
Ether.com:
The Ether voice-commerce application is often used for business purposes, and will now let you place a “call me” button on your Facebook profile, and earn money by communicating their knowledge and expertise over the phone. This can be used for tutors, consultants, experts, bloggers and a few other professions we can think of that involve a call-in line.
Is this a beginning of Social Media Marketing?
