The Indian Music Industry (IMI) has decided to tie up with Sydus a web streaming media company,. Users can from their mobile phone can listen to music and they have a pretty large collection to choose from 5,00,000 to be precise ranging from the 60’s era. This service can also be accessed trough the Web as well.
Saumil Nanavati, president of Sydus, in a statement. “With 150 million mobile users and 35 million Internet users, what we are providing to the Indian business community is a way to tap directly into that market and get their message across to the right audience,” he adds.
Songs from upto 12 different languages will be available by 139 member record labels, including leaders such as Saregama, Universal, Tips and Sony BMG. It will be a downloadable application and the music will be available free with some sponsors.
“This is a great leap forward into the digital world for the Indian Music Industry,” adds Subroto Chattopadhyay, chairman of IMI.
The Indian youth is more mobile and internet savvy and they would be the prime TG.
The problem of GPRS costs would come into picture. Although the GPRS costs in India are very low compared to the rest of the world but still they considered pretty high in India. Being able to maintain the same quality of sound at minimum file size would probably a major issue also most of the youngsters live on a strict phone budget.
