Techtribe.com the techie social network whom we have reviewed earlier in our India 2.0 series. Techtribe has been making constant progress and has been in the news for corporate alliances as well.
Now it seems its the ever expanding erecruitment industry that is on techtribe ceo rohit aggarwals mind. I had a 20 minute conversation with rohit where he explained to me what techtribe’s newest feature introduction frontfoot is all about. Simply put its an attempt to integrate social netwoking and jobs by adding user referrals in a way that credible and beneficial for both job seekers and employers.
Techtribe is looking at exploiting its current userbase of tech savvy professionals by providing IT jobs for middle level management i.e. jobs paying higher than 8-10 lakhs per annum. The rationale according to rohit was that these kind of profiles are very hard to find from jobsites especially in IT segment. He felt that such profile candidates would be more comfortable on a social network like techtribe.
So what exactly is the frontfoot process?? How does one apply?
The frontFootProcess
- Companies post high-paying job opportunities on techTribe
- techTribe members (Tribers) refer other Tribers as candidates for the posted jobs
- If the company hires a candidate that was referred, the Triber who made the referral is rewarded withRs. 10,000
- The Triber responsible for bringing the hired candidate into the techTribe network is also rewardedwith Rs. 2000
On understanding the process i realised that though this can be a good additional revenue model it could also mean that many users might join techtribe just for the jobs aspect (assuming the referral model is successful). I also feel this kind of model would take sometime taking off as less that 10% of people would refer someone till they actually start recieving money or hear of other users making money. Rohit also mentioned that it could also be possible that some users take this up as their main source of income (after all 6-7 referrals if recruited could mean Rs.60000-70000 in revenue for the referrer and if thats earned in one month then thats as good as a monthly salary for a middle management techie. There is also another site whose model is based on referrals known as mohanchoti.com which also like techtribe is patent pending.

its the money going to user rather than consultants
