We had recently reviewed around 20 Indian video sharing sites…

Now lets see what the 2 most promising ones are up to and we are also including a small mention about some new players in the scene.

Lets talk about Rajshri first. Well Rajshri was in the news recently for releasing the film Hattrick online. Now they are going to release Life in a Metro in a few days. This will be the latest addition to their film segment. It’s great to see movies being released online - the same day of it’s release in cinema halls.

Life in Metro was available for a 72-hour download on-demand starting 12 noon IST from May 11, 2007. The Low and High bandwidth versions of the film were available at $9.99 and $19.99 respectively. This was aimed mainly at the NRI audience. They are also planning to release a 90 episode series of the movie for the internet audience.

What have Nautanki TV been upto?

Latest news is a change in Logo and a search powered by Guruji.

Now you can register to Nautanki.TV as Content Producers and upload your shows and you get paid for this - depending on how popular your video has been.

Via Digital Inspiration:
Nautanki.tv has adopted a unique revenue model that makes it an attractive option for bloggers or web publishers. Nautanki.tv shares advertising revenue with website owners who embed the Nautanki.tv Flash video player on their websites.

Bloggers are paid, on a Pay-per-view basis, around 15% of the advertising revenue that Nautanki.tv charges it’s advertisers (which is generally in excess of INR 5 per view).

This 400×350 Nautanki.tv widget can also be good source of revenue for regional language blogs (like in Hindi, Tamil, etc) where contextual advertising programs like Adsense do not perform so well.

Co-founder Sunil Nair expects to roll out a more "intelligent" advertising platform in the next three months that will deliver video ads based on site’s content and will have more detailed reporting for ad publishers.

Lets see some new players in the video scene:

SuckooBai- Well nothing new in this site, the usual stuff is present. Nothing interested me besides the name. Sometimes i wonder how people come up with such names.

Suckoobai recently got funded by KashFunds, an investing firm. In the site of suckoobai it has been said that it is powered by Urban tadka, but in the KashFunds portfolio page they are mentioned seperately. Urban Tadka is a to-be launched social networking site. If you guys have further knowledge please contribute to our post.

Dekhona is another video sharing site that is targeted to the Indian audience. The site is rumored to be funded by a big US-based portal and wants "to be bigger than the biggest" player in the online video sharing space. It strictly warns users not to upload Porn content.

Video Curry - Another video sharing site with no new content as such. A part of Konkan.tv, it also helps the user to make money by sharing and distributing their work using the video curry platform.

LoudAppeal is another site which is dedicated to all the cricket lovers. Similar to sixer and crictv. One can get to watch all the cricket videos. One can join communities also. This site also features videos of latest bollywood songs and trailors.

  1. Nice writeup
These players can ask the publishers to create a video with an advertiser product or brand name placed somewhere in the video.
That will give these some brand visibility along with user participation which will be some value for money spent by them.

Because ads in these types of video sites will help only in brand and visibility, but not conversion.

  2. Suckoobai, is a Marathi name.
In the past, that is during our grand generations, Marathi women always had a "bai" tag after their names. For e.g. my grandmother's name was Supesha. But everybody called her Supeshabai as a mark of respect.

Today "bai" tag is out of fashion and people whould generally get offended if someone attaches "bai" after their names. Hindi bollywood movies also started naming the prostitutes in the movies with the names like Tarabai which also became a stereotype for the "bai" tag.

However, maid servants which generally come from rural areas of Maharashtra carry a "bai" tag with their names as rural MH is still pretty much in the past. In Marathi "bai" means a lady.

    Suckoobai is just another name.

  3. Hey thanks a lot for the contribution Harshal. Finally someone found out the meaning of suckoobai!! ;)
