Yes you read it right!
Anshul Samar, he’s just 13 and he’s the CEO of Silicon Valley gaming startup Elementeo.

Anshul literally stole the show at TiECON 2007 in Santa Clara, CA.

Here’s a video of him from the conference:

I had the opportunity to shoot him a few quick questions:

Q. Congratulations Anshul, it’s great to see a 13 year old CEO from Silicon Valley – quite an inspiration to all of us here in India. Tell us something about your Indian roots?
A. Thanks a lot. Both my parents are Indian. I am fluent in Hindi. I come to India once every 18 months or so. India’s a pretty great place.

Q. Tell us something more about Elementeo?
A. Elementeo is about injecting fun and games into education. We have created a game of chemistry to teach chemistry to kids in a fun and exciting way. You are armed with an arsenal of elements, compounds and nuclear reactions and try to reduce your opponent’s IQ to Zero.

For more details check out their website:

Here’s how the game works: You command an army of chemical elements, compounds and catalysts — represented within a 66-card deck (the fire and brimstone card at left is for “Sulfur,” for example). Your opponent has his own deck with the same number of cards. Your goal is to battle your competitor and reduce his IQ down to zero. Pit your oxygen card against your opponent’s iron card, for example, and you learn that you create rust. Score one for oxygen. Kind of like rock-paper-scissors, but with chemicals, dice and 66 impressively illustrated cards featuring monster-themed caricatures of chemicals.

Q. Your special interest in Chemistry?
A. I was exposed to Chemistry in 5th grade and then rest I learnt from Wikipedia.

Q. How many pre-orders have you received till now?
A. We have received hundreds of pre-orders so far.

[The are looking at a target of $1 million by next year.]

Q.
Any VC’s interested?
A. I was there at TiECON to talk to Angels and VC’s. Looking at $100,000 seed funding.

(Check the video for more details)

Thanks Anshul, all the best for the future and keep us posted.

Well I’m sure Anshul is an inspiration to all Indians - young and old!

We hope to see more Indian action in the Web 2.0 scene. International hits like Zoho, BitTorrent, Spock etc all have an Indian connection and we hope to see some major innovations arising out of India soon.
