Sometime back we had a post on ‘What is going to increase GPRS usage in India?’

Well, can it be SEARCH?

The potential is enormous but what one needs is someone to educate the general junta the potential of the phones which they carry in their pockets.

Hutch has taken a very encouraging step with their latest TVC, to make potential users realise that its offering is simple and impressive.

Striking ad. It’s a pretty long one (90 seconds)…and half way through it, you might actually be wondering WTF is going on?!?!

Watch it here:

But it does manage to get the message across in the end – at least to the users who are net-savvy. The TVC went on air yesterday and has a second edit version with a few different situations.

“Internet penetration itself is only 3 per cent in India. Given this scenario, surfing on mobile phones is a practice most have only heard of,” says Harit Nagpal, director, marketing, Hutch.

O&M have made the search come alive and it’s definitely a great ad - but what I would like Hutch to concentrate on, is getting their Net-Savvy users on to GPRS. Educate them, get them hooked and then watch word-of-mouth marketing do wonders.

We’d covered the Pink Ticker campaign earlier – a nice TVC, but if complimented with an online campaign…it would have guaranteed further ROI.
