.Mobi a hit amongst indian youth

Move over .com/.net/.org/.biz, etc. its time for .mobi. After all 95000 names bought within 48hrs is no joke. With companies going mobile, .mobi would surely be the choice of companies. An article by ET states that the most sought out names on the internet have been sex, .mobi, adult, hotels, India, finance, entertainment and shop.mobi. These names were among the first 5,000 ones registered and were gone within the first 10 minutes of the opening of the registration process.
.mobi (also known as DotMobi) is a top-level domain approved by ICANN and managed by the mTLD global registry
DotMobi domain names were made available for public registration on September 26, 2006. Although introduced quite recently, .mobi has already made headlines with several 6-figure domain sales, including Flowers.mobi for $200,000, Sportsbook.mobi for $129,800, and Fun.mobi for $100,000
According to dotMobi CEO Neil Edwards’ corporate blog, 95,000 .mobi names were bought within the first 48 hours of opening up of registrations.

Most websites today are not compatible with mobile phones. One can view them using a cell phone but it is very inconvenient for users as the text and pictures are scattered all over the screen.
websites that are compatible with mobile phones would surely want to get .mobi names for their websites. Sachin, who heads Mumbai Hosting, a reseller of domain names and web hosting space to the end consumer says that the takers so far have been mostly youngsters.
Considering that companies would eventually book these domain names, Indian youngsters have risen to the occasion and booked probable names, which would be beneficial to them for reselling in the future. Good for a quick buck. ;-)

Its good that websites are going mobile, but the cause for concern really is being able to get rich text like photographs and others on the mobile phones as currently most websites that are mobile compatible mostly provide content.

You can even check out how your website currently looks on a mobile device.
