Well well well.. The wait is over.. all the hype about the Reliance funded social network Bigadda is soon to die because BigAdda has officially launched and now all will know what big adda is all about!
Though they have started in invite only mode they have given away a tour link which explains whats hidden inside the big adda!
If you ask me launching big adda with choose your logo and then choose your layout tactic was a smart move as it attracted a lot of traction just by purely being a reliance backed social network (I have started to believe that if you are rich and famous its easy to get noticed and written about even if you are doing the most mundane things).
So what is so great about big adda? Well on the face of it … ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! It has profile, blogs, videos, scribbles (known as scraps in orkut) .. There is something known as nudges and votes which are similar to features on Hi5 where a a user can give a five and in orkut one can rate his friends using smilies, hearts and ice cubes which signify trusty, sexy and cool respectively. And the inspiration doesn’t end at the features..
If you see the homepage of big adda the main image is inspired by Orkut.. Dont believe me! Check this..

So whats so special about bigadda??? I aint so sure.. I haven’t had a look at the entire network and all its features (primarily because its invite only and they haven’t given me an id as of writing this article) but what i can say is that different or not bigadda may do well because as i mentioned above.. I have started to believe that if you are rich and famous its easy to get noticed and written about even if you are doing the most mundane things (things which everyone else is also doing!)..
Honestly the only reason bigadda gets a whole post on WATblog is because its from the Reliance guys but all in all it looks like any other social network.. No surprises here! Yawn..

It is a nice strategy. They are keeping things simple. Their main aim is not to go after guys on orkut already. They'll be using their heavy marketing spend to reach out to guys who are not on orkut. Connect with the indian audience.
When would you cover a detailed review?
I read the last 2 posts about social networking. Definitely true that in India orkut rocks and as of now any other social network is not welcome. Mainly because they do not bring anything new to the social networking scene. I think a couple of blogs have reviewed them, Orkut, MingleBox, Jhoom, Yaari, Fropper and now BigAdda. Another one to waste VC funding.
Oneindia has launched its Indian Blog Directory.Focus is on Indian Blogs. This is a focused effort where Indians can submit there blogs.

@ BA: We'll have a review as soon as possible! I like the logic of reaching out to people who are not already on social networking.
Infact mentioned the same thing in the minglebox post.
@ Shubham: I want one of these chaps to explode in to the mobile scene and utilise their funding optimally. Anyways WATConsult might be able to help too
Saw another review of bigadda here http://www.techbanyan.com/archives/120 …those guys literally tore it apart. it seems other than networking, bigadda still has to improve its technology for rendering images.
