Proto.in’s 2nd event due to take off in July, is awaited with much zeal by not only startups and Venture capitalist but also a lot of Technology enthusiasts, who are drawn to the event due to its earlier success.
Ravi Shankar, who handles marketing and sponsorship for Proto says “This time around the event has captured more Venture Capitals. They have come forward and contacted us; this can be credited to the success of Proto’s January event.” He states that 17 VC’s have already confirmed their participation, and there are band of angels from Bombay and angel investors from Delhi to join.
The Technology enthusiast’s attendee’s can look forward to some really good companies, over all Ravi believes the quality of the event will be grander than the previous event.
The event in January showcased some great startups from the telecom sector, but these startups did not get the required publicity, to tackle this issue for the upcoming event Proto.in has tied up with “Tonse Telecom” Magazine. This magazine will be covering the telecom startups due to participate in the event.
To make the event even better, proto learnt from it previous events drawback i.e. lack of media coverage. To counter this drawback, they have started publishing for the event before hand and have a committee in place called PROTO TALK that will help leverage the required publicity (both in main stream media and online media) to the event and it’s participants.
The earlier Event saw 26 startups presenting their product/services in a span for 8 minutes each, leaving no time for an interaction session. One can now look forward to a short 2 minute Interaction at the end of every presentation of the 20-25 startups that will be selected.
The Parameters for the selection of the startup is on the basis of its technological and business aspects. The basic guidelines are simple A) The product/Service should be a solution to a problem. B) The Product/Service should have a market. Proto has a Panel of Industrial experts that will provide their expertise on every startup, before they get short listed. “We are looking for innovation, difference and products/services that are tuned into the needs of the Indian market” explains Vijay Anand who is part of the selection committee. Dr Ashok Jhunjhunwala,Atul chitins, are part of the advisory board of Proto
10 starts up that made their Demo in Proto.in January event are currently in the process of receiving funding. The other startups that participated in the event received offers for funding from others after receiving publicity at the Proto.in platform. Ravi believes that “"This time around Proto.in will be the most happening hangout for the Indian entrepreneurship ecosystem”. If the past is anything to go by the event is predicated to be better and bigger. Vijay Anand quotes “Because of the impact of their previous event and the right partners this time, the event will ignite the product innovation ecosystem in India. The key thing is to have tie of technological ecosystems in Asia leading to cross border collaboration.”
