Yahoo has introduced a Web-based version of its Instant Messenger that works inside a Web browser, etc etc etc…..
You must have read such or similar articles recently on web It has been doing rounds on the internet for a few days now.

There are already websites that have been providing this service since a very long time and have been very successful, infact they provide web based chatting on popular IM’s like Gtalk, Yahoo, Msn, Aim, Icq etc for free which is all available on a single website which provides complete access to all your IM’s form one window.  Some of the names providing this service are.
Meebo
Kool IM
e-buddy.com

iloveim
Msn web messenger

Meebo the most popular of the lot provides services to Gtalk, Yahoo, Msn, Aim, Icq, Jabber.

According to this article “The service is tailored for use by travelers, workers whose employers block software downloads to company machines”
This is just to put to notice that the websites that have already been providing this service have already faced restrictions & have been blocked by schools offices etc.  In the pic below, users are complaining that web based IM’s are not working as they have been blocked by their schools etc.

forum comments

Just to give a user feedback:-
On checking the website   ……. I got the biggest shock when I realized that I was not able to log in… not because the website wasn’t working, but because my Yahoo toolbar blocked the Yahoo web-messenger Pop-up… ;-)

  1. there's nothing to be so critical of this move. it is a nice flash interface. tbey are also looking at introducing voip based services on it soon. it is already a hit with the working crowd.

i think this was a move to counter the immense usage of gtalk embedded in gmail - which led to a lot of companies banning access to gmail. If Yahoo can widgetize this product and enable embedment in your MySpace or Pageflakes page, then it would really be a killer application.

  2. hi brandy,

if there are already websites available who provide you similar services, infact even more than yahoo. a web messenger by yahoo that allows users to access any IM would have been a greater hit,

    thanks for the comment
