In case you missed reading Part 1, you can do so by Clicking Here.
Summarizing some key findings from the earlier part:
Top 8 cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune

Other 10 cities we selected to track (Tier 2):

Well now lets come to Part 2:
In this edition, we reached out to 1300 people and tried to understand their behaviour in the blogosphere…
All of them were aware of Social Networking and could be classified as net-savvy individuals.
Here are the 6 options we asked them to choose from:
- I am an active blogger and an active blog reader.
- I blog occasionally, but am a more of an active reader.
- I only read blogs, but do not possess one.
- My blog is no longer active, but I do read blogs.
- I rarely read blogs - perhaps once in a week.
- I have no clue what blogging is!?
Here are the results, on a National Level:
(Click on the image below to continue to the complete report)
30% of Indians are not aware of blogging.
Mind you these are net-savvy individuals who are aware of Social Networking.
14% are active bloggers, which personally I think is quite a large number!
Now let us go through some Zonal statistics:
NORTH ZONE:
Cities covered: Chandigarh, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, New Delhi

SOUTH ZONE:
Cities covered: Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Cochin, Mangalore, Manipal, Vizag

WEST and CENTRAL ZONE:
Cities covered: Ahmedabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Mumbai, Nasik, Pune

EAST ZONE:
Cities covered: Guwahati, Jamshedpur, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi

- 36% of the people in North Zone had no clue as to what Blogging was.
- East and South Zone had the highest number of regular blog readers. (Active bloggers + Readers + Readers without blogs themselves) at 47% and 46% respectively
- North Zone possesses the most clueless junta when it comes to blogging, i.e. 36%
- Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai are the 3 leading cities in India when it comes to blogging.
- Pune has the highest number of bloggers who are students – which is pretty predictable because of its massive student population.
This brings us to the next important question – What is being blogged about? And what is being read?
We will be covering this in the next edition of the Blogging Report, so do stay tuned to WATblog.
Do pour in comments and we are of course open to criticism and questions.

Hi Rochit,
That would be included in the paid version of this report.
Cheers,
Ekalavya
Don't know how scientific your survey is but it is a fact that Chennai is far and above the leading blogging city of India. This was also covered in THE HINDU sometime back and Chennai continues to maintain that position.
I think: http://www.hindu.com/2004/09/22/stories/2004092212780300.htm
This was the article you were talking about. All it includes is a statement which says 'Chennai has one of the strongest bloggers' community in India'.
Strongest need not always be largest and I do not see any statistic backing that statement in the article either.
Like we said in the article - South Zone would definitely be the strongest with Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai commanding the highest levels of blog-engagement.
Cheers,
Ekalavya
