Hi,

maybe you missed out on something more... there are 2 aspects to building a successfull webservice.
1. content/users
2. revenues.

now both these factors are of extreme importance. As far as aggregating content goes, getting users to upload videos is... well.. OKAY i guess... important too.. but in this day and age where services with millions of dollars in backend funding goes, getting users to upload content is extremely hard. They have absolutely no compelling factor to do so which they can get their content noticed on services like youtube.

So what we thought of is.. building a video index. (currently from youtube.. and we're expaning the indexing algorithm to include other sites like veoh, dailymotion, aol, metacafe, etc...)

so now.. users who have their videos on these popular sites can get them aggregated on KONKAN TV very easily... without having to spend time uploading it again... this method also acts as a mechanism where users download videos from youtube (which is illegal BTW) and re upload them as their own on other sites... the mashup service merely acts as a video social boomarking service... something along the lines of del.icio.us/reddit for videos...

revenues is another important aspect of survival. we recognise that extremely well... and hey !! ad revenue does not suffice....

we look at the web as a starting point and not as the end point for a "service". the web is a gateway for aggregating content.. the revenue generating content distribution mechanism is different... I suggest you read: http://blog.konkan.tv/2007/03/streaming-videos-to-wireless-media.html to get an idea of the methodologies and pathways we have chosen to adopt for revenues .. :-)

Building a database of youtube videos is very easy.. We could index them all... automatically.. but what we're trying to achive is not a video index thats robotic. it's hand picked video content.. which is selected/bookmarked by the users themselves...

what say u now ? I'd love to hear your opinion on it...
