“PLUS” launched for mobile handsets
‘PLUS’ the mobile application made by Star mobile entrainment (a Star Plus mobile interactive division) has been launched today. The users can download the application via a GPRS connection or WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) with 220 compatible handsets at present.
Users can download mobisodes (Mobile Episodes) of their favorite serials and clips of movies and view them on their handsets.
Other than viewing serial’s Plus provides other services like:
Mobile banking (currently only HDFC)
Travel & Ticketing by MakeMyTrip.com and TravelGuru.com
Yellow Pages information from Infomedia Group
Music Content from Universal Music
Design tips from Better Interiors
All about cars from Overdrive.
Advice from Better Photography
Users will have to pay Rs 30 per month as subscription fee. However, the company has offered a free trial for one month. There is no fee for downloading the application.
Star plus has tied-up with major telecom operators like Hutch, BSNL, Idea, BPL, Spice and MTNL.
The company plans to invest Rs 15 crores on marketing and promotional activities for PLUS.
”Mobiles have become multimedia devices but their current usage in the country is limited and we are confident PLUS can exploit,” Star Mobile Entertainment Vice-President Viren Popli said.
It’s a great move from star plus. I feel it’s the right time to enter the Indian mobile space. Currently there are about 20 million people having GPRS activated on their handsets. This number is soon to grow considering there are many other players entering this market e.g. Mobile TV is soon to launch this May. Going mobile is the next big market for almost all sectors and mobile Service providers will have to eventually further reduce GPRS costs and provide attractive pricing.
