We have been working on a rather interesting research – where we have been tracking online youth behaviour in social networking communities.

Some facts revealed from the current Orkut research:
7.67% users delete their scraps regularly.
Well the reasons may vary from person to person.

Possible reasons?
Too avoid unknown people from snooping around and reading their scraps and getting information about their personal lives.
At times people tend to be very confidential about the messages they get and are not confident to show their messages in public. Why do these guys not use email for private communication? Perhaps it is the convenience of scrapping?
Others might not want to reveal their true self. Some are afraid of voyeurism
A number of other reasons might also pop-up, do feel free to comment and share your views on this.

Google did recognize this when they introduced the ability to delete multiple scraps at a go.

Another interesting fact that we have noticed is the slow increase in the number of videos displayed / uploaded. It took time for users to figure out how to exactly display videos. To share their own videos, they needed to go to YouTube or Google Video – create an iD, upload the video and then use the link on their Orkut account.
Quite a long tedious process and therefore we see lesser number of personal videos displayed on Orkut.

Videos like communities reveal a lot about the user. You will get to know the kind of music he appreciates. Perhaps Google can later integrate a feature where ‘Similar’ videos can be displayed.
92% of the videos uploaded (which we came across) were Music videos.

Polls have also become pretty popular and a lot of people are actually participating actively in polls.
Primary poll topics in general communities revolve around:
Cricket, Bollywood and Sex.

We will reveal more details later.
