Search, Book & Pay for Airline tickets from your mobile
Email It!
Travelmartindia India’s first E-commerce Travel portal has recently launched a service that allows customers to Search, Book and make Payment of Airline tickets using sms on mobile phones. Users can also check their status online and can subscribe for latest and best deals available directly on their handset.
The New service provided is in collaboration with Paymate (a wireless transaction service provider)
The only problem I notice at Paymate is that Currently only Citibank Customers can avail of this service.
I think it’s a good move from a travel website as mobile is a big and ever expanding market, infact the mobile market in India as of 2006 is 149.5 million and is expected to triple by 2011.
Cleartrip had done something similar, they allowed users to book tickets via sms which was earlier covered by us
Manoj Gursahani, chairman of Travelmartindia, says, "The solution is unique in two distinct ways. Firstly, it allows customers to make and pay for their flight bookings over their cell phone using the SMS protocol. And second, it offers a browsing experience that’s optimised specifically for PDA and smartphone users." Travelmartindia has inked a travel channel partnership with mobile transaction platform provider C-Sam, which is a brainchild of technocrat Sam Pitroda
The Mobile Value-Added Services (MVAS) segment allows higher margins for telecom operators, at the same time offering mobile subscribers a better choice of services. According to an MVAS report prepared jointly by Internet & Mobile Association of India (IMAI) and IMRB International, MVAS will bring in nearly US$ 1 billion by the end of 2007, rising from Rs 2,850 crore to Rs 4,560 crore.

Had read about paymate a few months back.. can you find out who else is using paymate.. I am sceptical about its acceptance in the indian scenario as the customer has not even gotten used to online payments, mobile payments are still a far call.. any figures regarding paymate would be appreciated
hi puneet,
you can check out all the merchants of Paymate on http://www.paymate.co.in/merchants.asp. currently they have about 2500 merchants in tieups. the reason online payments are not up to the mark in india is because users are not comfortable sharing their credit card number online and as there have been many cases of fraud online. using paymate one does not have to reveal his credit card number or personal details and the biggest advantage is that the user's details are only with one company ie Paymate unlike online payments in which users have to give out their personal info to each and every website thus making the user more insecure.
unfortunetly i cannot provide you info on any figures concerning paymate.
nice to see comments by readers… cheers!!!
