Job portals.. is it just about the numbers?

If you haven’t already been a witness to the recent timesjobs and naukri battle with regards to number of active resumes which started with their campaign "everyone is quitting naukri" and their claim of being the No.1 jobsite its about time you started reading stuff online!
The mud slinging and tall claims of both these jobsite giants have been posted all over the internet. You can read the posts and various conflicting comments here, here, here and here.
So whats this whole deal about numbers? Is it the only diffrentiating factor for job portals??
Lets see what the timesjobs press release had to say "Timesjobs has more than 50-lakh job applications floating around in the portal, TimesJobs.com has been witnessing a record-breaking, mind-numbing 150 million page views a month, beating its nearest competitor hands and resumes-down with 120 million page views."
My question is - How many of those applications are even remotely relevant? i.e. how many of the applications sent are a match on qualifications and location? This statistics if provided would actually give an interesting twist to the effectiveness and relevance of these numbers! Lets just say you are one of those guys who says.."when there are 50 lakh applications there have to be some that are relevant!" Agreed! But then if you gget 200 applications and only 20 are eligible how much time is spent in screening through such huge data? Isn’t time = money?
The press release also states "TimesJobs.com has 30.73 lakh active resumes (less than six months old), its nearest competitor is 3.45 lakh behind with 27.29 lakh resumes."
My question is - What is active? If im looking at english speaking commerce graduates and there are 1 lakh non english speaking undergraduates active users are they active for me? Also is it possible to go through 30 lakh data? I would prefer a site in which i had to go through 30 resumes to find a candidate rather than swim though 300 or even 3000 who may not be even interested in the job. Also is just a resume good enough to know how good the candidate is? I dont think so.. The internet can provide more that just text based resumes. It can provide interactivity and validation that can enhance the recruitment process. But i wonder why the jobsite are so number focussed!
The above questions are both for naukri and timesjobs to answer as im neutral to both of them and also for any other jobsites that are getting pulled in the numbers game.
The latest i read was timesjobs is looking at spending 40 crores in advertising to generate more resumes. I dont think number of resumes is the solution i think effective matching betwen demand and supply and accountibility i.e. how many get recruited is the key value addition that would drive the jobsite market of the future. Those who do this first will win the battle.

While the battle between Timesjobs and Naukri seems to heat up like the cola wars, one site that is doing a good work is ClickJobs.com. The responses that people receive from this site, are quite relevant to their needs. I'm sure this is one job site that is going to come up in a big way.
I am a HR consultant and I have subscribed to Timesjobs as well as Clickjobs, as these both are only affordable to developing consultants like me.
I would definitely rate clickjobs above the rest (I was offered a trial period of 3 days by both naukri & monster and I was not satisfied).
In clickjobs there is some option to filter the candidates on its own and it gives precise numbers of CVs say 60, which matches my requirement to a large extent
In other sites, it presents about 300 to 500 CVs, of which anyway only 10% of them fit mine
Clickjobs saves my time and my mobile bill. That way is great advantageous
