Tribal DDB makes a ‘Protected Entry’ in to the Webby Awards Nominees list

The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web has nominated Tribal DDB India’s “Protected Entry” for MTV India as the Best Interactive Advertising Work of 2007.

We had blogged about this campaign way back on November 30th, have a look.

Protected Entry was created in collaboration with MTV India to promote the cause of World Aids Day on 1st December 2006. The idea sprung from a very basic insight that web users are usually cautious and require assurance that a site is ‘protected’ before they enter it. A landing page banner appeared before the site launched where users had to choose a condom for their cursor and protect themselves. The message was clear. No condom. No entry. Get protected.

On the whole, the 11th Annual Webby Awards nominees unveiled can be summed with just five words: "The Year of Online Video."
From Jumpcut (Best Broadband) and AOL’s TMZ.com (Best Celebrity/Fan) to Steven Voltz’s "The Extreme Diet Coke and Mentos Experiments" (Best Viral) and Mekanism’s "Clearification" (Best Branded Advertising), video innovation is a hallmark of nominees in dozens of categories, confirming why it has become the driving force in a medium which continues to reshape everything from advertising and business to pop culture and politics.

"The Internet is becoming an even more integral part of our everyday lives thanks to the creativity and innovation of this year’s nominees," said David-Michel Davies, the executive director of The Webby Awards. "It’s especially exciting to see how so many of them are using the power of video to create a more vital and entertaining online experience.

A full list of all nominees in more than 100 categories can be found at www.webbyawards.com

I even noticed a category for the best Viral Marketing campaign!
Nominees for it include Varitalk’s celebrated "Snakes on a Plane" campaign.

Unlike other awards shows, where only judges choose the winners, The Webby Awards revels in the Web’s democratic spirit. The public can cast their votes in The Webby People’s Voice Awards here

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites. This year they received 8,000 entries from a record 60 countries

Tribal DDB India’s “Cursor Campaign” for yatra.com has also been given the Honoree Status this year.

Well it is nice to see Indian companies being short-listed for such awards. We hope to see more interactive and interesting work from TribalDDB, WebChutney, Media2Win, GroupM, Quasar etc
