Blogger.com out of Beta – But how cool is it?
Well Blogger.com went out of beta quite some while ago and you must also be feeling is why are we posting this now?
Well at WAT Consult we were researching on user behavioral patterns and wanted to see how important is the simplicity factor, especially in a country like India. So, I decided to test out how easy would it be for a person who doesn’t really have much clue about HTML, editing templates etc to customize his layout on the new blogger!
…and I was pleasantly surprised.
Well, the most important feature at the out-of-beta-blogger apart from integration with your Gmail iD is – Customizing your template.
So what does that mean?
Well, you can add various elements/widgets on to your blog.
Such as:
And then you can drag and drop these elements anywhere on your page:
i.e. About Me can be below Links/BlogS or between My Photos and Archive or you can simply delete it too.
Well the element which I added in the above image is that of a Flickr Badge .
Last time around, I had to copy-paste this piece of code right into the HTML Template of my blog and find the exact position and location etc without a WYSIWYG editor.
This time around, all I had to do was add the element ‘HTML/Javascript’ and paste my piece of code in it. Drag and drop the ‘element’ wherever I wanted to on my blog page and I was done.
Other interesting elements/widgets include:
Newsreel – Automatically adds current Headlines from Google News to your blog.
Video Bar – Displays clips from Youtube and Google Video
Picture – You can add a picture widget. (There is also some integration with Picasa)
Feed – You can add content from a site feed straight into your blog. (Eg: You can use the WATBlog RSS Feed and incorporate the latest WATBlog content directly into your blog)
Other new features include: Creating a private blog, More feed options, Labels/Tags for each post and an updated dashboard which harps on pure simplicity.
