Youtube under fire for ICC and Tseries videos

This has been the bane of all google’s web 2.0 owned and acquired babies.. Content control is virtually non existent when it comes to media sharing like youtube and social network like orkut.

So the legal hassles for google are piling up day by day. So Youtube is under fire again for two different reasons.

For starters ICC has ordered YouTube to remove World Cup clips claiming copyright infringement. The ICC and the rights holder to the event, ICC took the action after hundreds of World Cup clips appeared on the site. And it doesnt only stop at cricket clips.

Music and entertainment major T-Series has filed a lawsuit against Google, accusing the Internet major of copyright violation.

The company has accused Google of showcasing its protected audio and video repertoire through its subsidiary and community site, YouTube.com. T-Series alleges to have incurred a loss of around Rs 100 crore and is seeking compensation for the amount through a petition filed with the Delhi High Court.

A YouTube spokesperson said: “We do not control the content on our site. Our users post the content on YouTube — including videos, comments and ratings. Our community guidelines and clear messaging on the site make it clear that users must own or have permission from copyright holders to post any videos. We take copyright issues very seriously. We prohibit users from uploading copyright protected material and we co-operate with copyright holders to identify and promptly remove infringing content.”

The above two cases are signs that the TV and entertainment world even in India are taking notice of media sharing and its reach to the audience. Youtube would have to find ways how not to get into these legal hassles and would have to find a way to share revenue and keep the tv media companies whose content is being uploaded happy.
