Buses drive internet into rural india!

Posted by Rajiv Dingra on March 30th, 2007.

Have you wondered what the rural india would like to surf on the web? would they want t learn english? would they want to increase their knowledge on microfinance? Are they looking to do business???

None of the above…

Internet in the rural india is needed to bridge the digital divide but the usage of internet is for different reasons. According to Amir Hasan of United Village "They want to know the cricket scores, they want to see the new Aishwarya Rai photos, and they want to hear a sample of the latest Bollywood tunes."

United Village is a to provide two billion people living in rural areas of developing countries with an email address, a phone number, and Web access using wifi buses.

"There’s only 0.003% percent of the web that rural India cares about," Amir Hasan told BBC News.
