Google affiliates advertises adsense with popup ads!
Email It!
Yes you are reading it first here! Google Google Affiliates are using popup ads to advertise it adsense services! Though this may sound not such a big deal but it does make google look extremely hypocritical as if its lost control over its affiliates when you consider google’s high standards and also the fact that google never allows any kind of popups on its own adsense network!
So my question is why the hypocritical approach is google getting too big for its own shoes??? Is it losing control? Because on one hand it has a note on its website saying that google will never show popups on its network and on the other hand its affiliates are using popups to advertise for adsense!
I saw the following popup when i went to an article on oneindia.in.

WHy is it necessary that this ad is from Google itself? I can be an Adsense affiliate and could advertise this way?
That does not necessarily mean Google is cheapening values…Anyways, I could be wrong..Did you check the destination URL of the ad!?
Yes i did.. its a google ad for sure.. Affiliates cannot use its trademarked logo.
1. The ad you speak of is being served by 'ads.greynium.com' server. They are using the Google creative. Further, the routing to the Google webpage is being done through media2win server. The popup opens at the greynium stage.
2. 'Affiliates cannot use its trademarked logo'. That's what Google says. Doesn't mean people follow it like the law.
Think you should research your posts a little more. Google using popups is an extremely damaging story and you oughtta be sure what you're writing bro.
Dear Karan,
As far as im concerned its a google ad. Even if its an affiliate he seems to be using google's brand name and creatives which obviously is authorised by google. So if google is getting so large that it cannot control who uses their trademarked logo and where then thats their fault
All i know is as a google product user i was shocked at seeing a google popup banner and it affected their brand image in my eyes.
I see your point Rajiv, but then your story should be 'Google losing control of affiliate activity' instead of 'Google advertises using popups'! Big difference
And to leave you with a thought - Is it Boeing's fault that there's an underwear brand by that name in India?
The existence of a different product with the same brand name and the usage of a brand name by an affiliate are two different things. I dont see this ad as an affiliate ad. I see it as a google ad because there is no mention of any affiliate. Now you tell me is it my fault that google has given its affiliate the powers to advertise as if its google own advertising? When a company focusses more on revenue the brand value is diluted to some extent which what is happening with google in this case. I am not unecessarily defending my article. Im just saying i blogged like a normal online user and any other online user would have felt the same seeing the google popup. Having affiliates doesn't mean that google isn't responsible for their actions. btw have you noticed WATBlog has NO ads.. Not even google ads.. Just mentioned it to make sure you know that we aren't hypocritical..
Whoopsy, I seem to have annoyed you and you sound defensive. That was not my intention and do accept my humble apologies if I came across as annoying.
I should state my point to you from a different angle. At watblog, one expects to read the 'story behind the story'. "WATblog is a community of bloggers who have experience in Internet Advertising and Technology." This is what your intro says, so I expected you guys to speak from an expert and 'experienced' view and not a "any other normal online user". But it seems you guys don't always do that, so I know now! Anyways, more power to you guys and all the best!
You are right we are not experts.. but we are quick learners.. (check the post) hope you keep reading watblog and keep giving candid feedback.. we really appreciate it..
