Blogs - the buzz tools for corporates?
Email It!
More and more companies are looking at blogs for corporate communications. An article in indian express states many such cases where corporates are using blogs to create a buzz about their services and also hire new staff.
“My blog acted as the best way to attract potential job-seekers and also helped create a strong brand-name,” says Menon, founder of Options Executive Search.
“The buzz is started by our customers, who discuss our products through blogs. There are also trade blogs where someone posts a query like ‘does anyone know a product which can …’ We post replies directly to such questions, revealing our corporate identity,” says Vikas Joshi of Harbinger Group, an e-learning solution provider.
“About a third of our sales is an indirect result of the company blog,” says Pramod Harith, a marketing manager at MeritTrac Services. MeritTrac is a job skills assessment company.
I am not surprised at seeing these comments in this article infact im only glad that people are waking up to the power of blogging. But it isnt as simple as its made out to be. Blogging is not about promoting its a one to many conversation tool which if not handled well can backfire as well. As negative feedback can be expected on the blog and one has to be prepared to face up to these negative feedbacks.
One really great example of such a blog which faces and openly showcases all the negative feedback is the blog by cleartrip.com. A case in point that they better have negative feedback on their own website than have it all across the web on blogspot or like this site setup exclusively for the victims of expedia.
Well if you are a corporate and are already getting petrified by how blogs will affect the word of mouth and how people will react to your company starting a blog. Fear no more because WATBlog has started WATConsult a web 2.0 strategy consulting company that focusses on user engagement through blogs, social media, wiki’s and other web 2.0 tools. And guess what?? We have signed up a few clients as well. Official announcement on WATConsult soon :)
Besides for WATConsult there is also another recently started blog consulting company called Blogworks.in which is organising a workshop as well. Blogworks is owned and run by Rajesh Lalwani an ex-Genesis (the PR firm). And why are we mentioning our competition in the same breathe as our own company? Well because competition is great! We love people who help us expand a market opportunity and Blogworks.in is doing that for us and we are greatful to them for doing seminars and educating people about blogs :). Maybe we shall also do a seminar someday.. But more on that later as of now your thoughts on blogs as buzz tool will be appreciated so comment and let us know what you think..
