It was always evident that as the numbers on the web grew in india so would the content and its language as India is a multi cultural country with various languages. And hindi being the national language its no surprise that hindi content is on the top of the content list for most internet companies. So everyone from a blogger.com to a sify.com to the new indian search engine guruji.com are indulging in tapping the online hindi market.
For starters blogger.com has added a new English-Hindi transliteration feature inside Blogger will let you type blog posts in Hindi using English Keyboards.
Through this feature one can type "mujhe" which means "I" in english using the english keyboard and the transliterator will convert it to the devnagri script in which hindi is written in.
The second example is sify.com which has appointed Big Bang Media as the Hindi content aggregation partner for its websites Sify.com, SifyMax.com and Samachar.com.
Speaking on the partnership V Sivaramakrishnan, president, portals, Sify Ltd, has said, “This tie-up will help us to substantially strengthen our presence in the Hindi entertainment arena. Our physical presence in the South has given us the edge to establish strong relationships and acquire quality South Indian content for our portals. We believe that Big Bang Media, with their experience, industry relationship and in-depth understanding of Hindi content, will facilitate Sify.com to offer engaging and relevant Hindi content to our users.”
The third example is that of Guruji.com which has launched Hindi, Telugu and Kannada language search. SPeaking on the launch Anurag Dod, Co-Founder & CEO, Guruji.com, said, "What sets us apart is our focus on the Indian market and the Indian consumer. China has become a big internet economy because of content availability and accessibility in local language. If India were to grow at the same rate, we need more focus on vernacular. It’s only then we would have truly empowered the Indian consumers."
Though translating tools are very much required for the indian market more that such tools its good quality vernacular content which has the flavour that the non english speaking audience is looking for will be the winning stroke as far as tapping the desi market is concerned.
