Video brand sites on the rise!

Well the large corporate brands are starting to acknowledge both the power of Internet and the power of UGC (User generated Content) and Videos or the most often used buzzword web 2.0. So here a list dow of the number of brands using the web and setting up interactive web 2.0ish portals and are using online videos to engage their target audience.

MentosHelpline.com – Mentos the popular mint brand has made an attempt at extending its offline campaign of ‘Dimag Ki Batti Jala De’ online by launching mentoshelpline.com. The website works by making users pose their questions and there are chances of getting replies quickly which are called as mentos answers. A very well executed concept as the helpline aspects like the phone dial one which the nuber keys are used for different kind of problems. Also the helpline executive with the background image of mentos helpline all have been done with utmost sincerity which actually enhance the tongue in cheek aspect of the whole site. The users can also add their own cheeky answers to the "Batti Bank". Also if you do not click any question the mentos helpline executive is shown having one mentos after another.. Another tongue in cheek aspect which clicks for me :) . All in all a superbly executed concept.

channel v2ChannelV2.com - Channel V has launched a site with video uploading and sharing features a la the now famous adopted child of google Youtube. Channel V plans to extend the brand channel V through the website. While users can download content for free, users who upload their video or audio content will be paid. Channel V is taking a risk both by letting users download their content for free and by allowing users to upload any kind of content. But Saurabh Kanwar, vice president, content and communication, Channel V feels that this initiative is worth this risk. From the looks of it its just youtube concept applied to ChannelV’s content! Nothing path breaking about that.. Though it makes sense for a tv content provider to use the internet to drive content related buzz but at the end of it there aint much for music fans except same videos on the net. Though once Channel V starts advertising about this initiative on their channel they might recieve some decent traction on the site which might create a viral effect. But all in all nothing too great.

Semigirebaal.com – This one is again an attempt to extend the very popular semi girebaal character enactd by Cyrus Sahukaar on MTV to the online space. This microsite has been especially  created for womens day i.e today. It has a complete women quiz which can be taken by both men and women. The site takes too much time to load but when it does you see Cyrus Sahukar i.e Semi Girebaal in a bath tub ready to ask you a quiz that would help you know your women better. The quiz is generated from the ‘Semi labs’ and is processed by the ‘Semi Processor’. Though the sit is painfully slow its very funny to say the least. A nice attempt though they could have tried to understand that not all people have 500kbps download speed! It took me 20 mins to go through the entire quiz!
