Email It!

rediffmailThe email space got competitive when gmail came into picture and said that they were giving away 2 GB of space an unheard of number! Then the others (yahoo, msn, indiatimes and rediff) followed gmail’s strategy by offering 1gb or so email space..

But now it seems space in email will never be an issue if th latest announcement by Rediff is anything to go by. Rediffmail has launched unlimited email space! Now thats some announcement and hence it was made by their Ceo and MD Mr Ajit Balakrishnan in the middle of the sea in mumbai near gateway of India.

Ajit Balakrishnan, Chairman & founder Rediff.com said, “With the phenomenal growth of broad band penetration, usage of email for storage and sharing of multimedia files has increased. Rediff’s offering of unlimited storage space enables users to store unlimited photos, music files, videos without worrying about deleting mails from inbox. Advanced search in rediff mail enables users to manage unlimited storage space effectively and help retrieve relevant content as and when required. With unlimited storage space and non closure of ids, SMEs and Individuals need not use multiple email ids, Rediffmail id can become their permanent id”

I think this a very interesting move by rediff. I would be waiting to see what reactions it gets from other email providers like yahoo, msn and gmail.

Another issue for rediffmail is the migration aspect. I recently logged into my old rediffmail id and did not see anyway (or maybe i missed it) i could migrate all my mails from another email account to rediff. Somewhere down the line the email player that integrates features that are far more freedom oriented and that makes itself compatible with othr email players in terms of contacts download, email import etc would come on top.
