Cricket is now in stocks and astrology!
Email It!
Yesterday India played its first warm up game for the world cup 2007 with Netherlands. And now you can play too! But not in west indies. But in front of your computer!
Two interesting websites revolving around cricket have come up! Lets know them one by one.
Cricstock.com - As the name suggests this is a virtual stockexchange for cricketers. Launched recently in order to leverage the hype around the world cup. This is an attempt by students from IIT Roorkee (a leading engineering and technological institute of India) and IIM Ahmedabad (ranked as the best Business School in Asia Pacific by The Economist) to bring together the share markets funda and cricket.
The site has already attracted more than 3000 registered users since it was launched on 25th February and the number is growing fast. As per the latest IPO trends, Sachin Tendulkar has been oversubscribed 5 times, followed closely by Saurav Ganguly.
I also saw a tv interview of the founders of this site! I guess anything about cricket is hyped these days
Cricketology.com - If cricstock tried to combine share markets and cricket.. This one tries to combine astrology and cricket and call it cricketology! Set up by Skilworth, a Chennai based start-up, launched as a build-up to the world cup, gives cricket fans an in-depth peek into the art and science of cricket and encourages the fans to apply this knowledge in a scientific and logical prediction game on the website.
The game works on a simple funda i.e. users will accumulate the points by making predictions for the world cup matches and redeem them for prizes at the end of the World Cup.
I guess the fortunes of these sites will to some extent depend on India’s fortunes in the World cup! If India wins im sure a lot of people will make millions! Advrtisers, TV houses, online websites and ofcourse cricketers themselves!
