World cup fever grips the online and mobile world
Email It!
Cricket cricket everywhere! Thats the scene which is expected once the world cup gets underway! But in the online mobile space the fever has started to spread already.. We had written an article earlier about how cricket was spreading itself all over the web but now its seems that even mobile will have its fare share of cricket mania.
Cricinfo is working with Bangalore-based company Dhruva Interactive for its mobile phone applications and offers games, scores, alerts, ring tones and audio match analysis, apart from an application called `Cricinfo Genie’, which allows consumers to watch cricket live on their phones in an animated format.
"Cricket is ideally placed for the mobile phone. We were one of the earliest providers of mobile cricket content. It started as a basic need through SMS scores when one couldn’t watch the match as he was away from the TV or travelling. But as technology is growing and handsets are getting better, activities on the mobile phone are getting more sophisticated. Although SMS still dominates the range of value-added services, its market is slowly being saturated. We are trying to prepare for the next stage through more complex applications through channels like MMS and WAP sites," explains Nair.
Thats not all the cricket’s governing body has tied up with Star India’s Indya.com to launch its World Cup dedicated website cricketworldcup.com. Indya.com’s foray into cricket started last year when it powered the official website for the ICC Champions Trophy 2006-www.iccchampionstrophy.com.
Ajay Vidyasagar, Executive Vice President (Content and Communications), Star India said, “We are delighted to partner the ICC in creating the official website for the ultimate cricketing event World Cup 2007. We are committed to provide the most comprehensive and definitive website of the game during the tournament and assure our users an online experience that they will find unparalleled. Simply put, if its news about the World Cup that you want, then this is the place to log on to.”
So it seems that cricket fever will heat up the interactive world with tonnes of content! and why not after all cricket is a craze like no other and with the world cup round the corner everyone is making a beeline to cash in on this craze!
