Moblogging the future of blogging?

What happens two upcoming and booming habits/hobbies of human beings converge? Well you get a recipe for a fantastic business opportunity or so claims an article in economic times.

Lets consider the statistics..

  • 200 million global bloggers.
  • 1.2 million bloggers in India.
  • 156 million mobile subscribers in India.
  • 10% of mobile subscribers in metros use GPRS facility
  • 2-3% in tier II and III cities use GPRS facility.
  • 40-45% phones sold in India are GPRS enabled.
  • Camera phones is registering around 25% quarter-on-quarter growth.

Now lets consider industry initiatives..

  • Sony Ericsson partnered with Google last year to launch a special m-blogging website. In second quarter of this year, it will be launching two cybershot phones K810 and K550 with m-blog feature.
  • Nokia too will be launching N-95 this quarter which has a 5 megapixel camera aimed at photo bloggers.
  • “Mobile blogging has lot of potential. We will soon be launching new products targetted at young m-bloggers,” says an Indiatimes.com spokesperson.

Hmm.. well we have a feature on WATBlog too called moblogging which means that I can post a blog on WATBlog through my phone by sending it as an email to an email account. But I still haven’t used it as typing from my Old phone is very cumbersome! may be my new phone would get me mobogging!
