Zapak gets girly with Zapakgirls and soon to go kiddy!
Email It!
There is no better proof of Girl power than this! Zapak has gone ahead and set up a new section all together new website called zapakgirls.com for girl gamers!
And it seems zapak is not the only one acknowledging woman prowess in gaming. Indiagames which is launching a gaming tournament in the first week of March in Mumbai, will have a separate set of matches for women.
According to Rohit Sharma, COO, Zapak Digital Entertainment, “About 12% of the gamers who get on to zapak.com are women, and we want to increase that to 25%. We have about 300 games that would interest girls — but there are some which are specifically for women, say on fashion and styling.”
According to Vishal Gondal, CEO, Indiagames, there seems to be very few girls in their teens who spend their time gaming. Which is why Indiagames plans to reach out to them at college fests, starting next month, with special tourneys for them. “
well this seems like an interesting strategy to target the teen girl gamer who might mean much more moolah in advertisers money (as girls in their teens have a lot more to spend on that boys! (this cosmetics, clothes etc etc!). They already have an advertiser in sunslkgangofgirls!
Update: Also it does not only stop at girls. Zapak is following the "Catch’em young" strategy by also soon launching ZAPAK kids — a gaming site for those below 12 years. "Now, six-year-olds are embracing the PC and the Internet. We have designed simple games that will appeal to them and interest them in computers," says Rohit Sharma, COO, Zapak Digital Entertainment.
The strategy by zapak seems well placed when you consider the numbers for gaming. The Indian gaming market is expected to grow to $424 million by 2010, according to a recent study by Nasscom. Zapak is also supplementing its efforts online by making huge investments offline into gaming cafe’s. Zapak is bringing exclusive `gaming cafes’ to reach out to B and C class cities that don’t have adequate PC infrastructure. This division of reliance ADA group is investing $100 million in the next three years in content (bringing world class titles). It plans its own technical infrastructure (upgrade datacentre) and access — bringing PCs and gaming in the form of cyber cafes to the far reaches of India.
Zapak has over 2 lakh registrations and over 2 million visitors to its gaming site every month and has quickly reached the top 100 sites that indians visit!
Looking at the way they are going it is going to be one tough task for their competitors to stop them.
