According to IDC, the Asia Pacific region is set to become the largest market for software developers by 2007 (I can vouch for this fact as i have seen the increasing statistics of techies that apply for jobs through my jobsite).

IDC predicts that the total number of professional developers worldwide is set to soar over the next few years, from 10.1 million in 2004 to 14.9 million in 2008. India is one of the countries tipped to see the most rapid expansion, with predicted compound annual growth rates (CAGR) of 24.5 percent. The growth of professional developers in India and other countries in Asia will help the Asia Pacific region overtake North America and become the largest market for professional coders in 2006-2007!

Now what’s important to note is though we may rising in quatity but the quality of developers is something i am not too sure of. There are two things that i feel lack in the Indian developers. One is the communication and management skills and the other is innovation!

Though i can be crucified for generalising but these two areas are surely areas indian techies can improve upon if we need to come up with technology startups and have a silicon valley kind of environment here in India.
