Online shopping which was earlier considered risky might soon be considered cool! Well why else would The AV Birla group join the online retailing arena by acquiring the Hyderabad-based supermarket chain Trinethra Super Retail, which includes its fast-growing online shopping outfit, Fabmall! And its seems its not only limited to the Birla’s seeing the future online.. Consumer durables and IT related products and all durable companies want to push their products through the online channel to improve sales.

LG Electronics India is trying to create different models exclusively to cater to online sales. Arindham Bose, head – online sales, LG Electronics India said, “The aim is to give different options of models for online buyers so that they can have a variety of choice. Currently, non-resident Indians (NRIs) contribute to 60% of online sales in the country.“

According to Vivek Sharma, vice president —Sales and marketing, Mirc Electronics Ltd, “Currently, we are selling the products online through other portals such as Shaadi.com. But now, with the increase in demand for colour televisions, big and small appliances, computer and computer peripherals, mobile phones and MP3 players, we feel that online sales of durables will pick up in the near future in India and we want to tap the opportunity. Also, information gathering through the internet is easier for consumers as the internet provides more options.”

Well with everything and everyone going online atleast now the consumer with have an option to get the same branded goods at the click of a button! Only time will tell how many these clicks turn into actual sales!
